The Chinese Program for Foreign Diplomats was launched in Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters on Feb. 27th 2010. The Director General and Chief Executive of Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters Mdm. Xu Lin hosted the Opening Ceremony and addressed a warm welcome speech to all the participants. There are 25 diplomats among which are 10 ambassadors and ambassadors’ spouses from 17 embassies of countries including Cameroon, Poland, Hungary, Zimbabwe, Bulgaria, Romania, Afghanistan, Tanzania, Slovenia, Mongolia, Ethiopia, Benin, Cuba, Nepal, etc. have joined the program.
This Chinese Program for Foreign Diplomats is specially designed for the foreign diplomats in China. It is planned to spend 28 teaching hours in 14 weeks to help the participants grasp the practice Chinese language skills in daily life communication. In order to help the learners with their after-class studies, Hanban/Confucius Institute also set up an online column (http://cffd.chinese.cn) for the course and arranged tutors for each participant.
After the first lesson, most participants thought that this is a very interesting and substantial language program and the teachers are very experienced. Suggestions for improving the course were also given by some participants. In order to meet the demands from more foreign diplomats, Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters will start an Intermediate-level Chinese Program for Foreign Diplomats in the near future.
